Bank of Thailand is increasing the volume of banknotes in circulation next month, to cope with higher demand in light of the Chinese New Year celebrations.
Woraporn Tangsaghasaksri, an assistant governor for Banknote Management Group, said that the central bank would issue banknotes worth Bt75 billion two weeks before the celebrations, which represent a 4 per cent increase from the same period last year.
This will increase cash reserves at commercial banks in the period to Bt180 billion.
