Academic points out major drawbacks of Meechai’s draft

Sukhothai Thammathirat university vice rector Yutthaporn Issarachai Sunday said the draft constitution has several major drawbacks, including origins the prime minister, MPs and senators, the power of independent organizations and the provisional chapter.
He said the charter draft was problematic on the point that it would allow a non-MP to become the prime minister and the electoral method of MPs and senators was also problematic.
He added that independent organizations would have too much power over elected politicians and it wold be too difficult to amend the charter.
Worse still, the junta would retain its undemocratic power through Article 44 of the interim constitution that will be included in the provisional chapter, he added.
