Chakkrit Parapanthakul, director-general of Treasury Department, said that the coins are meant to broadcast His Majesty's idea in wild elephant conservation and co-existence of human and elephants. One side of the coins features a mother elephant and her child, showing the motherly bond.
The coins come with three nominal values - Bt4,000 and Bt2,000 for gold coins and Bt200 for silver coins.
The coins, minted in the United Kingdom, will be exhibited at World Money Fair 2016 in Germany during February 1-9.
