Prayut refuses to take podium Tuesday

Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha appeared and spoke only briefly Tuesday after the Cabinet's weekly meeting, after throwing a tantrum and receiving heavy criticism last week.

His message Tuesday included, “ask good questions.”

Usually, the prime minister has to hold a press conference after the meeting to give interview to the media. Tuesday, however, he had deputy prime minister Wissanu Krea-ngam substitute him.

Wissanu said that from now on deputy prime ministers would take turn to do the job substituting Prayut in speaking to the media. Ministers would also take the podium sometimes, if the meeting agenda concern them and they have to speak to the press.

The deputy prime minister also said it was a better idea because deputy PMs and ministers have more details to share with the press than the PM who could only give the big picture.
