Nok Air warned it could lose licence if flights halted again

THE GOVERNMENT has threatened to suspend or revoke budget carrier Nok Air’s operating licence if the incident on Sunday in which more than 1,400 passengers were stranded at Don Mueang International Airport is repeated.

Nok Air chief executive officer Patee Sarasin Tuesday met with Transport Minister Arkom Termpitayapaisit Arkhom Termpittayapaisith to explain the abrupt cancellations of nine domestic flights that caused inconvenience to many passengers.
The CEO was told to show more responsibility as passengers were not informed in a timely manner after flights were abruptly cancelled because of a pilots’ strike.
According to the Transport Ministry, Nok Air’s licence will be suspended if this happens once more, and will be revoked if such incidents are repeated.
Government Spokesman Sansern Kaewkamnerd said the issue was taken up by Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak, who ordered the Transport Ministry to find solutions to the airline’s internal management problems to avoid |any further impacts to passengers.
Patee was told he should have taken action earlier, right after the problem occurred. The CEO reportedly relied on lower-level staff to tackle the crisis at first.
