Lao, Thai metal bands set to rage in Vientiane

Around 10 metal bands from Laos and Thailand will do their best to bring down the house at the fifth Metal Destruction concert set to take place in Vientiane on February 20.

Lao bands Dictator, A Claim of Sinner, Morrana and Dissevered will take to the stage alongside visiting bands In Vein, Macaroni, Musochist, Sonillon and Nuclear Warfare from Thailand.

They will perform for local and foreign aficionados at the 79 Pub and Restaurant on Saturday (February 20) afternoon and evening.

The event organisers said they planned to continue to hold the heavy metal concert at least once a year because many young people were interested in the genre, and more and more people were turning up every year.

The Metal Destruction V concert will gather both Lao and Thai artists who love metal music and revel in sharing their passion.

Last year, the Metal Destruction IV concert featured over 20 bands and hundreds of fans from both countries delighted in the show with its head-shattering music and wild dancing. Stalls at the front of the venue sold metal music CDs, cassette tapes and other items.

This year will be similar with the addition of some surprises, with all of the bands preparing hard in anticipation of kicking up a storm.

Heavy metal (or simply metal) is a genre of rock music that developed in the late 1960s and early 1970s, largely in the United Kingdom and the United States.

With roots in blues rock and psychedelic rock, the bands that created heavy metal developed a thick, massive sound, characterised by highly amplified distortion, extended guitar solos, emphatic beats, and overall loudness. Heavy metal lyrics and performance styles are often associated with masculinity, aggression, and machismo.

Many countries in Southeast Asia acknowledge this music style but in Laos only a small number of people are fans and listen to metal on a regular basis.

In general, it is not as popular as pop, dance, R&B and other genres. The Metal Destruction concert is organised by a group of Lao metal fans who want to popularise it among young listeners and want the region.
