Thai deputy PM in Colombo to discuss economic cooperation

Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand, Somkid Jatusripitak arrived in Colombo today on a three day official visit.

The Thai delegation comprises about 130 personnel from government and private sectors. They would follow up on the official visit of Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena to Thailand last November, during which trade and investment between the two countries in sectors such as agriculture, fisheries, tourism, construction, consumer goods and pharmaceuticals were discussed.

Jatusripitak's itinerary includes a meeting with Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Mangala Samaraweera, which would provide an opportunity for both sides to discuss bilateral relations.

The Economic Ministers' Meeting, co-chaired by Somkid and Malik Samarawickrama, International Trade minister of Sri Lanka would be attended by relevant Ministers and high ranking officials of Thailand and Sri Lanka. It would discuss ways and means to promote and enhance trade and investment cooperation between the two countries.

The other highlight of the visit would be an exclusive session between the Deputy Prime and representatives of leading companies from the two countries. This session is designed to explore more trade and investment opportunities.
