Suriyasai calls on junta to announce clear-cut reform plan

An academic Sunday called on the National Council for Peace and Order to announce clear-cut plan for national reforms before seeking to retain power via a special mechanism.

Suriyasai Katasila, deputy dean of Rangsit University’s College of Social Innovation, said if the NCPO has no clear-cut plan for reforming the country, its plan to establish an interim Senate of appointed members will be seen as the junta’s attempt to retain power without justification.
The junta has proposed that the first Senate should have all members come from selection and it should have five-year tenure.
Suriyasai warned that such perception would cause the draft constitution to be rejected by the public in the referendum in July.
