Kuala Lumpur - Malaysia on Thursday appointed Bernard Giluk Dompok as the predominantly Islamic South-East Asian country's first ambassador to the Vatican, the Foreign Ministry said.

Dompok was formerly minister for plantation, industries and commodities. He was also state minister of Sabah from 1998 to 1999.
The ambassador has also served as chairman of the Institute for Indigenous Development of Sabah.
