Tungkum's case dismissed

The Loei Provincial Court today dismissed gold-mining Tungkum's compensation charges filed against six villagers in the province.

Thiraphan Phankhiri, the villagers' lawyer, said that the court believed the villagers were affected in some ways though no government unit confirmed that the disturbance came from Tungkum's mine.
About 60 villagers from six villages near the mine were at the court today and were happy with the ruling.
The six are core members of the Khon Rak Ban Kerd Group (KRBKG) - a community-based group committed to defending the local environment from negative impacts of the gold mine. The company seeks Bt50 million in compensation for alleged damage to the company’s reputation.
