The NLA voted last week to propose an additional referendum question on whether the public agreed that selected senators should be allowed to vote for a prime minister to serve over the five-year transitional period following the next general election.
Critics have pointed out that if voters accepted both the charter draft and allowed appointed senators to vote for the PM, it could be problematic because the charter draft had different principles over selection of a PM.
Wissanu however dismissed such problems saying that the people might not agree with all provisions in the charter, but they would weigh all points and decide whether or not to accept the whole draft. “When there is a specific question, voters have the right to answer such a question. It is common,’’ Wissanu said.
