Fourth power demand peak today

Electricity consumption hit a new high at 29,004.6 megawatt today, the fourth peak so far this year.

The Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand said that power peak occurred at 2.13pm when the average temperature across the nation was at 38.1 degrees Celcius. Heat waves were strong in the North, Northeast and Central regions, it said.
Power demand has peaked three times so far this year. The first occured on April 6 and the second on April 19. The third peak occurred yesterday when power use reached 28,475.3MW.
Egat governor Soonchai Kumnoonsate said that electricity use could hit a new peak some time this week, possibly to hit 29,200MW.
He hinted that it could be the last peak for this year as demand should drop on public holidays next month. Meanwhile, Thailand expects rainfall from mid-May, which should cool down the weather and reduce electricity use.
