The court postponed the reading of the Supreme Court’s verdict to June 28 after Kwanchai failed to show up by noon.
Kwanchai, who changed his surnam from Phrai Phana, was sued by seven yellow-shirt leaders for allegedly leading red-shirt protesters to disrupt a rally on the People’s Alliance for Democracy in Udon Thani on July 24 2003. He was charged with murder attempts and injuring others.
Kwanchai was found guilty by the primary court and Appeals Court which sentenced him to two years and eight months in jail and ordered him to pay Bt350,000 compensation to victims of the political violence.
His wife, Arporn Sarakham, said she wanted him to turn up for the verdict reading because she had used her house and land as a guarantee worth Bt500,000 for his release on bail.
