In the opening ceremony of the 8th AtomExpo 2016 in Moscow today, M V Chudakov, deputy director-general of the international atomic agency, said the demand is expected to increase given the increasing population in the world and with respect to the climate change. More demand is expected from developing countries.
“More and more developing countries consider to include nuclear power into their energy mix,” he said.
Yet, he said all countries require the high grade in safe infrastructure and IAEA vows its full support to this regard. He said that safe and reliable nuclear power would lead to increasing demand in many countries.
“We believe in the future of nuclear power,” he said.
According to the European Nuclear Society, at end-February, there are 442 nuclear power plants existing across the world and 66 are under construction. The three-day event involves a number of discussions as panellists seek to offer solutions to ensure that nuclear power would help deliver the carbonless power balance.
