Govt, red shirts take their case to UN

A rare sharing of a cold dessert and sporadic rainfall in the Thai capital may not be enough to cool the heated race to the United Nations between the ruling junta and the opposition red shirts.
One red-shirt figure was seen sharing an ice-cream bread with a military officer while waiting for his colleagues to lodge a complaint with the UN human rights body on alleged infringement of their rights. They were protesting the government move to shut down nationwide their anti-fraud monitoring centres for the charter referendum.
Just a few hours earlier, Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha revealed that he had made a phone call to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon to explain the reasons behind the government’s crackdown on dissidents.
The ball is now in the UN court and it remains to be seen whether the world body would make any moves or opt to sit on the fence.
