Southern Army warns of stepped-up attacks before Muslims' New Year Day

Fourth Army Area deputy commander Maj Gen Shinnawat Maendej Monday warned all Army bases in the southern borer provinces to tighten security for possible stepped-up attacks by Muslim insurgents.

Shinnawat said the insurgents were expected to step up their attacks during the ten-day period before the Hari Rayo or Muslims' New Year Day.
He was speaking to reporters after inspecting a scene of attack near a taskforce in Narathiwat's Sungai Kolok district.
Two people were injured by a bomb in a pickup that exploded near the taskforce and a school in the district Sunday morning.
