Visiting Lao PM Thongloun to meet with Prayut today

Visiting Lao PM Thongloun to meet with Prayut today

VISITING Lao Premier Thongloun Sisoulith will meet with Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha today to discuss further cooperation in many facets of the bilateral relationship.

Their talks will cover many areas including regional connectivity and infrastructure, trade and investment, cross-border tourism, development and labour management.
Shortly after his arrival yesterday, Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn graciously hosted a dinner banquet in his honour at Sra Pathum Palace.
After the meeting today, the two premiers will witness the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on Labour Cooperation with the aim to promote skills development, employment and protection of workers.
Prayut said Laotian migrant workers were essential to the Thai economy, as they tend to do hard-labour jobs that most Thais prefer to avoid.
Thongloun’s visit was also about strengthening the bilateral relationship, as Thailand was a partner of the Mekong region, the PM said.
Werachon Sukondhapatipak, the deputy government spokesman, said the talks would also touch on the Asean Summit that Vientiane will host in November. Laos holds the rotating chairmanship of the Asean regional group this year.
Thongloun’s two-day official visit to Thailand is his first since taking office in April.
After meeting with Prayut, Thongloun will travel to the northeast province of Khon Kaen to be bestowed an honorary doctoral degree in management from Rajamangala University of Technology Isan. He will also deliver a speech while there on Laos’ development future.
