Prayut asked not to put through Phra Somdet’s nomination

Paiboon Nititawan, who previously chaired a reform committee on Buddhist affairs, and former Dhammakaya Temple follower Dr Mano Laohavanich showed up at Government House on Tuesday to try and block the nomination of Somdet Chuang as Supreme Patriarch.

They submitted a petition asking Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha to not put the monk’s name forward for Royal endorsement.

Somdet Chuang, also known as Somdet Phra Maha Ratcha Mangkhlachan, is currently the acting supreme patriarch. However, his name has been implicated in some scandals, including one involving a classic Mercedes Benz that had been acquired illegally.
