At a press conference at the Immigration Police Bureau, Chakthip said David James Roach, 37, had allegedly robbed Standard Chartered Bank’s Holland Village branch of 30,000 Singapore dollars (about Bt783,000) on July 7, and had flown to Thailand on the evening of the same day.
At the request of Singaporean authorities, Thai police arrested Roach on Sunday afternoon at Boxpackers Hostel on Phetchaburi Road.
Chakthip said police also proceeded to revoke his visa and blacklist him from re-entering Thailand.
He said the suspect did not provide any testimony to police and called for a lawyer, as was his legal right.
Police allegedly found Bt720,000 in cash in Roach’s hotel room, believing he had already spent some of the loot to buy a notebook computer.
Chakthip said police had contacted Singaporean and Canadian authorities and would extradite the suspect soon.
