French president activates crisis management centre following attack

Meanwhile - French President Francois Hollande is heading to the Interior Ministry's crisis centre after a truck rammed into a crowd in the southern French resortcity of Nice on Thursday, killing at least 60 during Bastille Day.

 

The French presidency said on its Twitter feed that the government had activated the inter-ministerial crisis centre following the incident in Nice.

 

U.S. President Barack Obamawas briefed on Thursday after a truck drove into crowds in Nice, France, the White House said.

 

"The president has been apprised of the situation in Nice, France, and his national security team will update him, as appropriate," said Ned Price, a spokesman for the White HouseNational Security Council, in a statement.//Reuters
