Vocational student caught with bombs, bomb-making materials

Police arrested a 17-year-old vocational student and confiscated two home-made hand grenades, two large bags of firecrackers and materials used to make explosives from a house in Bangkok’s Lat Krabang district.

The young man, whose name was withheld due to his age, was accused of supplying explosives to students involved in brawls, said Superintendent Pol-Colonel Torsak Sukwimon of the Crime Suppression Division (CSD).
He said police had been following students suspected of being involved in fights and on Monday found where they gathered before launching attacks on rivals, he said.
They extended their enquiries from that operation, in which a number of knives were seized, to identify the alleged bomb supplier, resulting in the suspect’s house being searched and his subsequent arrest the next day.
CSD Inspector Pol-Lt-Colonel Wanchana Thip-art said the suspect initially confessed to supplying explosives to students at Bt100-Bt200 apiece and revealed that he learned how to assemble explosives from YouTube videos. Police then charged him of illegally being in possession of explosives and took all the evidence for detailed forensic tests.
Meanwhile, police took two Bang Kapi vocational students aged 17 and 18, who were arrested in Chumphon’s Sawi district on Tuesday for allegedly stabbing to death a rival 16-year-old student at a gas station in Nong Chok district on Sunday, to re-enact the crime yesterday morning.
Police also made the mother and the teacher of the student who confessed to be the killer to acknowledge the new anti-affray regulation in accordance with the National Council for Peace and Order’s order.
