Pol Maj-General Charn Wimolsri of the Crime Suppression Division said Thassani and the 10 other suspects had been detained at the 11th Army Circle in Bangkok since Wednesday and would Tuesday be brought to the CSD.
Chiang Mai Provincial Administrative Organisation president Boonlert Buranupakorn is among the 11 suspects. He reportedly returned from overseas a few days ago to turn himself in at the 11th Army Circle.
The National Council for Peace and Order had filed a complaint with the Crime Suppression Division, accusing the 11 suspects of criminal association and of violating the referendum law. The NCPO demanded that they be tried at both civil and military courts.
The action was taken after security officers raided local government offices in Chiang Mai and a company belonging to the Buranupakorn family and found the letters that allegedly distorted the draft charter.
Critics have labelled the NCPO’s action intimidation and unfair, calling on the junta use normal legal procedures to deal with the suspects.
Police Region 5 commissioner Lt-General Thanitsak Theerasawat said police would have records of the 11 created and have doctors from the Police General hospital conduct physical examinations on them before they were flown to Chiang Mai for further investigations and the military court trial.
