Deputy BKK governor allays poor mourners' fear over dress code

Deputy Bangkok Metropolitan Administration Governor Pol Lt Gen Amnuay Nimmano Saturday allayed poor mourners' fear over being rejected because they could meet the dress code, saying the there are no strict regulations and all walks of life are welcome to pay respects to His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

After the media have reported that mourners would be required to meet the dress code to be eligible to go inside the Dusit Maha Prasat Throne Hall to be in front of the Royal Urn, many poor mourners expressed concern that they had no shoes.
“The Royal Household Bureau provides equal chance to all to go inside to pay respects to His Majesty.  Those who have been tending their rice fields throughout their life and have never worn shoes can also go inside without having to wear them,” Amnuay said.
He said he visited mourners from provinces, who stayed a several tents at Sanam Luang, and they expressed fear of being rejected because they did not have proper clothes.
“If they don't have black clothes, they can wear dark ones. Women who don't have skirts can use the phathung prepared by the bureau,” Amnuay said.
