Injuries reported in New Zealand earthquake
Sydney - Injuries have been reported near the epicentre of the earthquake in New Zealand, local media reports, without providing details.
"We are starting to get reports of injuries from the earthquake area, including Culverden area and Kaikoura. However, at this stage we do not have specifics," Dion Rosario, an incident controller for St John Ambulances, is quoted as saying.
"We are organising rescue helicopters and additional paramedics in case they are required," he says, according to Radio New Zealand.
