Annual ‘Thai sakura’ festival starts in Loei

Loei Governor Khumphol Banthaothuk Sunday kicked off the annual festival of blooming Wild Himalayan Cherry flowers at the Phu Lomlo mountain in Loei’s Dansai district.

The flowers of Wild Himalayan Cherry trees are known among Thais as “Thai sakura” flowers and a lot of tourists flock to the mountain each year to post for photos with them.
Sompong Sri-apai, the chairman of the Loei tourism promotion club, said there are about 100,000 Wild Himalayan Cherry trees on over 1,000 rai of land on the mountain for tourists to visit.
