The SSO board and its medical sub-panel recently improved the SSO’s original coverage for stem cell transplants, in place since 1997, by adding more benefits this year.
Suradech said stem cell transplantation using allogeneic unrelated donors – persons who weren't siblings of the patients – would now be covered, where it was previously limited to use of the patient’s own stem cells or transplants from siblings.
The maximum age of those entitled to SSO-covered stem cell transplantation would also now be raised to 65 from 60, he said.
