Suu Kyi discusses Rakhine with UN inspector

State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi has received a delegation led by the United Nations special rapporteur on human rights in Myanmar, Yanghee Lee, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Nay Pyi Taw.

They focused on the so-called the 21st-century Panglong conference next month, the overall peace process, promoting the role of women in the talks, human rights protection, efforts to bring laws up to international standards and efforts to get humanitarian assistance to Kachin and northern Shan states.

Lee mentioned clearance operations and humanitarian assistance in Rakhine State.

She began her fifth trip to Myanmar on January 9. She visited Myitkyina and three refugee camps in Kachin State. Her tour to Laiza and Hpakant was cancelled for alleged security reason.

She visited Zin-kyaik prison labour camp in Paung Township, Mon State.

Lee held talks with the Myanmar National Human Rights Commission in Yangon on Rakhine State and her prisons visits.

In Rakhine State she met Muslim and government representatives. She visited In Koetankauk police station in Rathedaung Township, Buthidaung prison, Maungdaw villages, Sittwe prison and Shwezadi monastery.
