Court upholds sentences in 2014 murder of Japanese teacher

The judge upheld the primary court’s life sentence for Samphan Jamjang, 50, for murder and the 20-year imprisonment for Pornchanok Chaiyapa, 50, for stealing and using the victim’s ATM cards and aiding in concealing the body. 
The judge noted that the court was not convinced that Pornchanok was also a conspiritor in the murder.
The appeal stated that between September 21-October 13, 2014, the couple conspired to kill ailing Shimato. They dismembered his body for disposal in a canal in Samut Prakan’s Klong Bang Bo before stealing Bt41,500 in cash and using his ATM card to withdraw another Bt520,000 from his bank accounts.
Pornchanok was brought from the Central Women Correctional Institution to hear the verdict.
