NRSA panel to continue to push for controversial media bill's enactment

The National Reform Steering Assembly (NRSA)'s  media reform committee would continue to push for enactment of the contentious media regulation bill despite the press’s call to drop the draft.

ACM Kanit Suwannnet, head of the media reform committee, said Monday the panel would present the draft to the NRSA’s whip Thursday, insisting the bill was for the media own interest.

The controversy of the bill involves its key feature -- the so-called media profession council -- whose composition includes four permanent secretaries from finance, culture, and digital economy ministries plus the office of prime minister. The media fears the four would represent political interest and hold the door to interference and control media.

Kanit Monday explained in a press conference that the committee is designed to have such composition to bring about the most efficiency and balance.
