Media representatives resign from NRSA subpanel in protest

Media representatives will Thursday submit resignation from members of the National Reform Steering Assembly’s (NRSA) subcommittee of print media reform to show their opposition against the controversial media regulation bill.

Former chairman of the National Press Council of Thailand Chakkrit Permpool, who is a member of the subcommittee, said he and other three fellow media would resign from the panel because the proposed media reform bill was aimed at restricting press freedom.
He said the subcommittee of print media reform had spent a year to study and listen to involved parties including media, civic groups and academics until they finalized the final draft bill which promotes media roles and duties and allows them to self regulate but the NRSA’s media reform committee changed the main contents otherwise.
