Mahidol University will form a probing committee over groups of lecturers of its underlying Institute of Human Rights and Peace Studies (IHRP) following the latter’s statement questioning the junta’s abuse of power including an absolute order to control Wat Dhammakaya compound.

In a counter-statement issued Sunday, Mahidol University denounced the lecturers for “damaging the university’s reputation” by falsely claiming its name in such statement. “Such action is not academic freedom,” the statement reads “We urge the issuers to stop it immediately”

Mahidol also stressed that it always stands by the principle to have all respect the law.

The University’s moves came after the IHRP on late Saturday night issued a statement calling for the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) to stop using its superpower granted by Article 44 of the interim charter.
