Anti-graft body still to contact UK authorities over Rolls-Royce scandal

The anti-graft agency has yet to request information from the United Kingdom’s Serious Fraud Office (SFO) in relation to the Rolls-Royce bribery scandal linked to certain Thai state enterprises.

Watcharapol Prasarnrajkit, president of the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC), said Monday that his agency has not made a formal request for the SFO to provide information regarding its investigation into allegations that the British engineering giant had bribed officials in a number of countries.
Between 1991 and 2005, Rolls-Royce allegedly paid Bt1.25 billion in bribes to officials from the national carrier Thai Airways International (THAI) and the country’s energy giant PTT, as well as certain other state agencies.
Watcharapol said that the wrongdoings took place during three periods of time and that the NACC has obtained “almost complete” information about the first two periods that involved THAI. He added that information regarding the last period was being sought from relevant agencies.
“We will work with all the relevant agencies to fully investigate this matter,” he said.
