Economy stronger in January, BOT reports

The Thai economy was driven steadily up last month mainly by the ongoing expansions in government spending and merchandise shipments, which were consistent with the export trend in the region, according to the Bank of Thailand.

The tourism sector also showed more robust signs of recovery in January. However, private consumption weakened after the expiry of government stimulus packages at the end of last year. Meanwhile, private investment stayed unchanged from December.
