A 72-year-old Buddhist monk on a solitude praying mission was found beaten to death inside a eucalyptus plantation in Ubon Ratchathani Sunday morning.

When police was alerted of the murder at 7:20 am, it was believed the monk has died for about five or six hours.
A local villager, Rod Simmala, spotted the body after he saw the monk’s make-shift tent and planned to pay him respect and ask for a prediction of winning lottery numbers. Rod was herding his cows to graze grass at the plantation in Ban Tha Mongmun village in Tambon Warinchamrab of Warinchamrab district when he noticed the monk’s tent
The monk was hit with a walking stick on his face and head and the stick was broken.
His stuffs in the tent were clearly searched through and a donation envelope was torn. An ordination certificate in his bag states that he was Phra Ket Thammukamo who was ordained at Wat Pho Sai Thong in Buri Ram on July 9 1989. A found train ticket showed that he travelled form Surin to Ubon Ratchathani on Saturday.
Police believe that he was murdered by two robbers who killed him after he refused to give them money.
