Mobile number auction nets Bt120m

The telecoms regulation agency has earned more than Bt120 million from an auction of special phone numbers, secretary-general Takorn Tantasith said on Sunday.
The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) held the auction of 200 special phone numbers on Saturday and Sunday.
Takorn said the phone number 091-999-9999 was acquired for the highest price of Bt8.02 million.
He said the revenue from the auction after expenses would be channelled to the national budget.
The NBTC auctioned off 50 numbers with the last seven digits repeating the same digit, such as 088-999-9999, 090-999-9999 and 090-555-5555. The numbers had a starting price of Bt3 million each.
The NBTC also auctioned 150 other numbers with the last six digits being repeated, such as 090-599-9999 and 090-199-9999. Each had a starting price of Bt500,000.
