Army denies excessive force in shooting of Lahu activist

The Army has denied using excessive force in the recent fatal shooting of a Lahu activist during a drugrelated operation.

“From information we have received, he not only resisted officials’ operations but he also tried to fatally attack officials. The shooting was an act of selfdefence,” Army spokesman Colonel Winthai Suvaree said on Monday.
Winthai was addressing the extrajudicial killing of Chaiyapoom Pasae, a 21yearold Lahu activist, in Chiang Mai province last Friday.
