Hilltribes demand fair investigation into death of young Lahu activist

Networks of hilltribe people  in Thailand on Tuesday called for a fair investigation and justice for the young Lahu man who was shot dead by soldiers during a drug-related investigation in Chiang Mai province last week.

Soldiers have claimed that they acted in self-defence as Chaiyapoom Pasae was about to throw a hand grenade at them.
Representatives of the Network of Indigenous Peoples in Thailand and 33 networks of hilltribe people gathered in Chiang Mai province and read out a declaration stating the extrajudicial killing shocked them.
