Freshwater jellyfish spotted in Phitsanulok

Villagers in Phitsanulok province reported seeing freshwater jellyfish in the Wangthong River in Nakhon Thai district this summer.

Residents of Moo 12 village in Tambon Ban Yaeng said they sighted the jellyfish only once a year in March and April at the Kaeng Jik part of the river.
The jellyfish’s scientific name is crasapedacusta sowerbyi. They grow to the size of a Bt10 coin.
Excited villagers caught them to have a close look and released them back into the water.
Rabiab Yuchang, assistant village head of Moo 12, said the jellyfish were sighted every year, although some years in fewer numbers.
This year a lot were seen, she added.
