Two arrested as police intercept huge haul of meth pills and ‘ice’ in Chiang Rai

Two men were arrested after police intercepted an attempt to smuggle 4 million methamphetamine pills and 149 kilograms of crystal meth or “ice” in Chiang Rai on Thursday.

Two other men fled on foot after police stopped a Chevrolet SUV and a Toyota car on Chiang Rai-Chieng Saen road at 3 am. A third vehicle managed to flee.
Police staked-out the area after receiving a tip-off that a gang would use the Ban Dai-Chieng Saen bypass road to smuggle a large haul of drugs from the border of Mae Sai district to Mueang Chiang Rai before smuggling it deeper into the country.
When police attempted to stop the three vehicles they sped off towards Chieng Saen.
After a chase, other officers blocked the cars near the Mekong River. One of the vehicles managed to escape and two suspects fled on foot into a forest on the river bank.
The two arrested men were identified as Sakchai Saeyang, 27, and Yamfati Saeyang 24.
Police found 4,016,000 meth pills and 149 kilograms of “ice” in the Chevrolet SUV.
