Peat swamp forest in Songkhla catches fire

A peat swamp forest in Songkhla’s Muang district caught fire late on Thursday night, threatening to spread to houses of local residents.

Police said the fire in the forest in Ban Bo-It village in Tambon Koh Taew happened at around 10.30pm.
Fire engines were unable to tackle the source of the fire because it was in a swamp. The firefighters tried to prevent the blaze from spreading to houses in the vicinity.
The fire, however, kept spreading apparently because of winds from the sea.
As of Friday morning, the fire had not been put out.
