Thunderstorms damage houses in Phichit

Thunderstorms damaged more than 250 houses in four districts of Phichit province on Thursday night, the Phichit Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office reported on Friday.
The office said 199 houses were damaged in Wang Sai Poon district, 42 houses in Thap Klor district, 10 houses in Taphan Hin district and three more in Sak Lek district. The office said two living quarters of monks were also damaged.
Phichit Governor Weerasak Wichitsaengsi said he had ordered the disaster mitigation office and local administrations to speed up help to the affected villagers.
Suthee Nomrawee, head of Ban Nong Yang Tai village in Tambon Wang Sai Poon of Wang Sai Poon district, said he thought the storm was the strongest in the past 50 years, with lot of thunder and lightning. He said he also saw a large whirlwind when the storm struck his village.
