PTTEP’s youth programme encourages care of the environment

PTT Exploration and Production Public Co Ltd (PTTEP) is continuing its PTTEP Teenergy project for a fourth year.

The project encourages teenagers to take part in natural resources and environmental conservation. It is a collaboration between PTTEP, the Office of the Basic Education Commission, the Department of Environment Quality Promotion and the Foundation of Virtuous Youth.
The program opens for high school students nationwide to join the natural conservation camp covering four regions. This year, the number of participating students has been increased to 280. PTTEP believes that the 3Cs strategy – for Cultivate, Create Change - is an important principle to encourage young generation to learn and recognize the value of natural resources and environment and make them become the young conservationists.
The project is held under the concept of “Step up for Conservation”, focusing on creating consciousness of natural resources and environment conservation among the teenagers. They will gain knowledge from a network of conservationists working in each region through activities such as making artificial salt licks as a wildlife food source, learning about mangrove ecosystems, crab hatching and releasing them back to nature, visiting the cultivation and agricultural innovation through the use of the recycled material, making firebreaks and learning how to make a biogas pond.
Moreover, the program also includes bringing the philosophy of the sufficiency economy to integrate with the youth learning process to commemorate the graciousness of His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej. The teenagers will be participating in activities with communities in PTTEP’s CSR projects and workshops to utilize their knowledge to create social contribution projects. PTTEP provides opportunities for students to present their conservation projects to win scholarships for their implementation and create benefits for their communities.
Pranot Tirasai, executive vice president for corporate affairs and assurance group of PTTEP, as the chairman of PTTEP Teenergy project, said: “This year, we have expanded the project to create the young generation network nationwide by organizing four camps in four different regions. We focus on encouraging the teenagers to be confident, dare to think, act and engage through learning processes and creative activities both practically and theoretically. Therefore, they recognize the value of nature and take part in natural conservation.
“ Moreover, PTTEP also realizes the importance of raising consciousness among the teenagers about bringing the sufficiency economy philosophy and the natural conservation approaches according to HM the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s initiatives to inspire them for the environmental conservation based on the concepts of security, safety and sustainability. This will lead them to take part in social contribution activity with the power of PTTEP Teenergy that is ready to protect natural resources and the environment with true conservationist at heart."
The 4th PTTEP Teenergy project is open for high school students or equivalent (aged not over 18) nationwide.
