Welfare scheme draws 12.5 million applicants

More than 13 million people were expected to have registered for government welfare benefits by the end of Monday.
Finance Ministry permanent secretary Somchai Sujjapongse said 12.5 million low-income citizens had registered for welfare between April 3 and last Friday in a programme set to conclude later on Monday.
Somchai said applicants could check from May 22-June 22 to make sure their names were on an approved list via an office-hours hotline at 1359 or at www.epayment.go.th.
