The agreement is aimed at achieving a practical approach to tech development, commercial viability and creating value addition to agricultural products.
The first project – for paddy-field management by crop rotation and soil rehabilitation – is planned to be implemented this year by growing soybean after the harvesting of rice, utilising modern agricultural technology in Khon Kaen’s Chum Phae and Phu Pha Man districts.
The budget for the project is more than Bt5.4 million, Agriculture and Cooperatives Minister General Chatchai Sarikulya said on Monday.
Panpimol Chanyanuwat, director of ARDA, said: “The collaboration with Mitr Phol Group is a part of our mission to support the policy of the government and the Agriculture and Cooperatives Ministry in agricultural research development.
“Both parties share a common interest in conducting agricultural research in an efficient manner, optimising the utilisation of available resources, such as information, workforce, technology, materials, tools, equipment and facilities, as well as improving skill and knowledge in agricultural research, enhancing the country’s competitiveness and experience in the field.”
Krisda Monthienvichienchai, president and chief executive officer of Mitr Phol Group, said the collaborative effort would help the Thai agricultural sector to create higher revenue.
It also supports the “12th National Economic and Social Development Plan (2017-2021)”, which sets a goal for the sector to grow by at least 3 per cent annually, he said, adding that it was moreover in line with Mitr Phol’s “Grow Together” principle, which “we have adhered to throughout our 60 years in business”.
