Nakhon Phanom sees heaviest rains in a decade

“The decade’s heaviest rainfall” flooded roads and a market in Nakhon Phanom’s Muang district early Thursday morning, damaging cars and other property.

A source in the district said it was the heaviest rainfall in a decade, starting at 1am and continuing for five hours. The provincial weather office reported that 150 millimetres of rain had fallen.
Municipal workers deployed powerful pumps to direct floodwater into the Mekong River, quickly easing the situation in several areas. They planned to leave the pumps in place to prevent more flooding as rains are expected to continue.
