Fire destroys 100 homes in venerable Lop Buri community

More than 100 homes in a century-old community in Lop Buri were destroyed in a massive fire early Wednesday.
Police said the fast-moving blaze in the Manorah community in Mueang district’s Tambon Thahin started at 1.03am and took more than three hours to contain.
The community comprises some 500 houses, all packed densely together.
Fire-fighters called on neighbouring municipalities for assistance and engines were deployed from Ayutthaya, Sing Buri and Saraburi.
Lop Buri Governor Phanu Yaemsi, police chief Pol Maj Gen Dissapoj Isarangkul and the local district chief and mayor were all at the scene directing fire-fighting efforts and aiding residents.
