Sperm whale washes up on Phuket’s Surin beach

A 10-metre-long sperm whale was found dead on Phuket’s Surin beach on Wednesday.

A lifeguard spotted the carcass on the beach at 11am and alerted the Phuket office of the Marine and Coastal Resources Research and Development Institute.
Dr Kongkiart Kittiwattanawong, chief of the division of rare species at the institute, said the whale might have died of illness. He took samples from the whale before having it buried.
