The Cabinet on Tuesday allowed the Public Health Ministry to buy some medicines and medical devices without calling for bids over the next few months.

“They can buy locally manufactured medicines and medical devices on the lists of the National Science and Technology Development Agency,” Government spokesman Lt General Sansern Kaewkamnerd said.
Sansern said such special purchases can continue until the new Government Supply Procurement Act takes effect on August 23.
At present, Thailand has spent about Bt150 billion on medicines each year. Of that amount, Bt110 billion worth of medicines are imported.
