Young Financial Star Competition continues career support for students

MONDAY, June 12, 2017

The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET), with the help of capital market partners, is holding the Young Financial Star Competition 2017 (YFS 2017).

The contest aims to cultivate knowledge and understanding of financial planning and investing among young people at university level. The programme’s ultimate goal is to help prepare them to be quality financial professionals for the Thai capital market.
The awards include scholarships for further education, training, and qualification tests, along with funding for both domestic and overseas study trips, with a total value of more than Bt5 million. Over the past 15 years, more than 70,000 students have participated in this project, SET president Kesara Manchusree said.
The YFS 2017 competition continues to groom a new generation of financial professionals for the capital market. This year, 5,900 students nationwide have submitted applications. A total of 274 students from 35 universities have been selected to participate in the project’s in-depth training. Throughout the competition, the selected students will have the opportunity to learn about financial planning and investment from experts. They will conduct hands-on practical exercises both in terms of analysis and planning. The project also grants scholarships for Certified Financial Planner (CFP) training to students in the first round to give these students opportunities to develop themselves to meet the capital market profession’s requirements.
The contest partners include Thailand Futures Exchange, Muang Thai Life Assurance, and PTT. It has also been supported by the Scholarship Foundation for Capital Market Development, the Thai Financial Planners Association, and ATI ASCO Training Institute. The final round in search of the new generation’s financial stars is on August 27.
