Strategy, reform bills under NLA scrutiny today

The National Legislative Assembly (NLA) on Thursday began deliberating over draft laws on a national strategy and reform that, if passed, would steer the actions of the government and its agencies for the next 20 years.

The NLA began discussing the draft national strategy bill at 10am.
Worapong Sanga-net said the vetting committee he chairs had re-examined five of the bill’s 29 articles after it passed its first reading in April.
He said the Cabinet and his committee had considered citizens’ opinions on the draft collected through various channels, including the government website and public forums.
One key change made by the vetting committee involves the composition of a national strategy panel.
In response to criticism about the percentage of seats allocated to the military, the number of places reserved for academics has been increased. The vetting committee has, however, stood firm on the number of seats to be occupied by top military brass.
